A Safer Alternative to Chemical Antibacterial Products

A Safer Alternative to Chemical Antibacterial Products

*This post may contain affiliate links. I only recommend products I use and love. Read the full disclosure here.

This is a post I’ve been wanting to write for a long time. I found myself researching and staring at my computer screen for hours. There is so much to say…I want to say it right. I want to get the important point across but in a constructive way. So here it goes…I ditched my cleaning products for Force of Nature because…

Antibacterial products are dangerous.

Okay, that wasn’t so profound. In fact, you have probably heard of this in the media at some point or another. I know I had heard it many times, “don’t use antibacterial products they kill your good bacteria.” However, it wasn’t until I developed adult asthma and heard about a study going on that was linking antibacterial chemicals to childhood and other cancers, that I really stopped to think.

I had to make a change to my household products. Even the products that said “all natural” contained chemicals like Triclosan (more on this chemical later) in them. Many of the products that are promoted as “natural,” actually contain Triclosan and other harmful chemicals like Phalates and Fragrance. So, don’t be fooled by marketing. Make a safe switch to nature’s true cleaners: salt, water, and vinegar. Cue …  Force of Nature

What is Force of Nature?

Force of Nature

The one product that I would recommend for safe home sanitizing would be Force of Nature. This cool product uses salt, water, vinegar, and electricity to create an electrolyzed water that is safe and effective for cleaning. It is as effective as bleach in disinfecting hard surfaces, but can be used safely around babies, children, and pets.

The starter kit comes with a small counter top appliance that turns your tap water into a chemical free cleaner that is safe to use around your family.

-It is formulated without Phalates, Triclosan, Formaldehyde, Ammonia, Fragrance, Sodium Laurel Sulfate, Benzothiazoline, and more chemicals I couldn’t spell!

-Kills 99.9% of germs including Staph, MRSA, Norovirus, Influenza A, Salmonella & Listeria.

-Disinfects plus deodorizes.

-Is eco friendly: No chemicals entering water sources, no plastic bottles, and packaging is 100% recyclable.

It alarms me how often I see antibacterial products on a list of must-haves for new moms. I can’t imagine wiping down high chairs or baby toys with chemicals that disrupt their tiny endocrine systems. Of course you want to disinfect your home, but you can choose a safer alternative that could protect your child from future ailments like mine.

What You Need to Know About Antibacterials

There is increasing speculation that chemicals hiding in antibacterial products can cause allergies, adult asthma, antibiotic resistance, and even disease. I recently developed asthma which has caused me to have bronchitis and pneumonia two years in a row. I have never been so sick. Now that I am considering starting a family, I am taking this antibacterial stuff pretty seriously, and I want to share it with other parents so they can help protect their children as well.

When I was a child in the 90’s, antibacterial products were all the rage and considered a necessity for parents to protect their children. Fast forward 30 years and not much has changed, except now we are seeing the real effects of these chemicals on a developing immune system, like mine.

The immune system is made up of good bacteria that support the white blood cells in keeping you healthy and fighting off the bad bacteria. When we are born, we strengthen our immune system daily by creating and coming in contact with the good bacteria that are the building blocks of our immune function.

The Culprits

Most cleaners on the market use a host of chemicals to clean and eliminate odors. Triclosan is a chemical found in antibacterial products that is now being deemed dangerous to our endocrine system. The FDA, EPA, and the science community are now taking this chemical and it’s effects very seriously. Triclosan is one powerful chemical that disrupts hormones. In order to eliminate illness, this chemical was added to toothpaste, containers, and even TOYS! Along with many other uses, this chemical can be found in the majority of household cleaners and soaps.

Most people have Triclosan in their blood stream. Being that this chemical disrupts hormones and can affect your ability to fight infection and disease, it is time to say goodbye to chemicals like this and others that are lurking in our home cleaning products once and for all!
